This is the second in a series of posts answering the question “What is the Best Moisturizer?”.I turn my attention next to Dry Skin.
This is not the normal dry skin which causes most of us to use moisturizers in the first place. This is the woman who has a chronic severe dryness, even to the point of cracking. This type of skin crys out for moisture and providing it is imperative when you factor in the very real dangers of cracked skin.
The advice is to find an oil based product which lasts longer than a regular cream based product. The oil is also better at retaining the moisture from the effects of evaporation also. A preparation contain Urea or Propylene Glycol is best.
Women in this category should also be very aware of their usage of drying soaps and other skin preparations. Tey should also avoid the long bath or hot tub soak as these can wash away what natural oils they do have. Moderation is the key.
Products in this category are Seisei Skin Care Cream (with Camelia Oil) and Ahava Dermud.
You can still afford to buy your favorite moisturizers! Introducing the all new Best Moisturizer Store (powered by Amazon). All the great brands and products are here at affordable, even bargain prices.

Here are some important tips from the November issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter on choosing the best skin moisturizer.
“Retail stores carry an overwhelming array of moisturizer choices. There is something for everything from eyelids to feet at prices from less than $10 to more than $100. The good news is that it’s hard to choose all wrong. Most — if not all — nonprescription moisturizers help smooth skin and replenish moisture in the outermost layer of the skin.
But products with claims that go beyond the basics probably aren’t worth the extra cost. In fact, higher cost doesn’t correlate with a more effective product. Selecting a moisturizer often comes down to personal preference. Take these tips into consideration when it comes to selecting a moisturizer for:
Moisturizers work best when used daily and immediately after a bath or shower. Well-hydrated skin feels better — soft, smooth and pliable — and it’s healthy, too. In well-hydrated skin, dead cells of the skin’s outer layer are more compact and orderly. This better shields the body from germs and allows dead skin cells to shed without becoming scaly or flaky.“

I want to start a series of posts addressing the most basic question. In fact the question this blog is named after. What is the best moisturizer. As has become apparent, the answer is,”It depends”. People have different skin types and different challenges. So I’d like to introduce a series in which I explore the major types of skin and what is best for each. Then I’ll suggest a couple of moisturizers for that skin type, concentration on the maybe not so well known but quality products out there. You can choose one of these or find a similar product in the usual product lines.
I start with the most basic type. NORMAL. Normal skin is skin which is not too oily or too dry. How’s that for technical? Although it is called normal, my suspicion is that it is a minority condition, with most being on either side, either too oily or too dry. I could be wrong, but that’s the way it seems to me.
So what does normal skin need? It needs to stay normal, that is, balanced. Moisturizers used in this class are not trying to change the condition, just support the status quo. Normal skin persons should choose a moisturizer which is water based. This supports the moisture need. It often features a light oil such as cetyl alcohol (not really an alcohol) or a silicone type ingredint such as cyclomethicone.
A couple possible products for this type skin are AHAVA Smoothing Moisturizer or Kinerase Cream. These products may not be the cheapest around but remember that in moisturizers choose quality over quantity. Also, with higher end products you typically use less per application because they are concentrated.
