Does Dewy mean Greasy?

In my perusal of all things moisturizer, I came across the post at http://truthinaging.com/face/kaplanmd-day-cream-spf-15-and-replenishing-night-cream-reader-reviewed . In her review of Kaplan night cream, i found this gem:

“The Replenishing Night Cream is clearly a richer lotion and I credit it with rescuing my dried out winter skin. These days, however, as the oil glands go into overdrive for the summer, I think I might back off from its use. One night as I was preparing for bed, my wonderful husband who never provides an honest opinion on my appearance because he always tells me I look beautiful to him (horrible guy, huh?) came in just after I had applied the night cream. I explained that I was having such a difficult time reviewing some new products and asked if he thought my skin had that “dewy” look to which he replied, “Uh well if dewy means greasy, then yes.”

This made me laugh. The sudden honesty of the husband was refreshing if not helpful. But it does underscore the importance of choosing oily skin specific products if that is a problem you have. You don’t want to exacerbate already oily skin even if the ingredients are good for the skin in general. There are plenty of oily skin centered products on the market. It is even doubly more important if you struggle with acne issues. Too many of the general products will clog the inflamed pores and made a bad situation worse.

Oil and water don’t mix. Everyone knows that. But some folks apparently confuse oil for water, on their skin that is. In reading on the web at http://www.theozarkschronicle.com/skin-care/facial-moisturizers-and-oily-skin.html , I found this discussion:

Facial moisturizers are significant as the skin ages, but many people are reluctant to exercise them if they have oily skin. The predicament is not with using a moisturizing facial cream, but with using the deplorable ones. Using the apt moisturizer can help oily skin objective as great as any other skin type.

Any skin type can suffer from a lack of hydration. However, this lack may not have anything to do with the amount of oil in the skin. The amount of water in the skin may be gross, leading to sensitive skin or skin that is flaky as well as oily. There are a number of facial moisturizers that can assist restore the suitable balance of moisture without making it oiler or causing blemishes.

Oil has more to do with the surface of your skin, water or moisture inhabit the cells below the surface. Oil is great

for preventing skin from drying out but it cannot plump out the cell and facilitate the cellular respiration that water can. If you have oily skin you cannot afford to use just any moisturizer but you must use a moisturizer. Just find one which will not add to your oily problem. There are lots of good ones out there. Look for “oil-free” or “for oily skin” in the description.
