Every woman knows the importance of moisturizers in her daily routine. The harsh environments of home and work take a toll on a woman’s skin, robbing it of vital moisture and making even young skin feel drawn and tight. So we turn to moisturizers on a daily basis to counteract this assault. The best moisturizer is one which leaves your face feeling refreshed and revived without leaving it greasy and slick. But what is that moisturizer, the best moisturizer? Unfortunately, there is no one answer. I had hoped to be able to share my discovery of the best moisturizer with you all. But alas, it seems what works best for me may not be what is best for you and vice versa. Everyone has different skin challenges. Some of us have very dry skin, some only dry in areas. Some have problems of serial sun exposure. Others have the challenge of acne or rosacea. The best we women can do is to find our own answer in the recommendations of others with similar skin types. So I invite recommendations and tips from you all on what works for you if you have found your best moisturizer. And if you are still looking, tell us what didn’t work and especially why it didn’t work.

The helpful hydrator: Jojoba
The shrub’s waxy oil is a great moisturizer. Better yet, jojoba’s compounds can also reduce irritation when they’re added to products that contain skin-drying alcohol, like hand sanitizers and toners, says Jim Hammer, a cosmetic chemist in Easton, Mass.

Find it in: Kiehl’s Sunflower Color Preserving Deep Recovery Pak, $25, kiehls.com.
The hair shiner: Coconut
Many oils moisturize hair, but coconut oil is one of the few able to penetrate hair shafts fully (due to its low molecular weight). Over time, it makes hair shinier and skin suppler. The latest news: Virgin coconut oil has been shown to be an effective natural antibacterial agent.

Mission Skincare is creating a line of products ranging from sunscreens and lip balms to anti-friction and foot creams. Their products are formulated by and for athletes. They even say they have created a new category, “high-performance, athlete-engineered skincare”. They teamed up with Serena Williams to create Serena Williams Active Daily Facial Cleanser. It’s a high-performance, foaming facial cleanser, moisturizer and makeup remover all in one. The formula includes Vitamin E, grape seed and tea leaf extract. The Amazon package even comes with two of their very popular Lip Balmers.
Here are some reviews by members of SparkPeople:
“I have been using Serena Williams’ Pomegranate Lip Balmer SPF 15. It was great in the sun and wind when we were hiking in the sand dunes this summer at Lake Michigan. Lips stayed moist and with the SPF they were well protected from the sun. It isn’t heavy or overly greasy but does stay on while drinking both hot drinks like coffee or tea as well as cold drinks like water or diet soda.”
“I have the lip balm in mint and sweet vanilla. They are both SPF 15. I like both of them–they seem to last, feel smooth and the scent is nice without being nauseating. Since they are paraben free, I let my daughter put them on once in a while when we are going to be out in the sun.”
“I ordered the MISSION product line at the end of June. They arrived within a week of placing my order and were wrapped very nicely in silver tissue with a few extras lip balms thrown in. I love the lip balm. Not only does it not have the waxy feel of other lip balms, but it keeps my lips from getting chapped or sunburned, especially running in the Texas sun and heat.”
“My four all-time favorite products are the Fast-Drying Sunscreen SPF 30+ Spray, High-Performance Anti-Friction Cream, Ultra-Soothing After-Sun Revive Gel and High-Performance Foot Synergy Gel. As a runner preparing for my first marathon, it wasn’t uncommon for me to develop blisters on my feet especially during my long, slow distance runs, that was until I started using the Anti-Friction Cream. In the past I have tried Body Glide and Band-Aid’s Blister Block, well-known to most runners in helping keep blisters and chafing at bay, but that was not the case with me. I had to go out of my way to buy Body Glide at my local running store and it did not live up to its name. I am proud to say I have run over 5 runs of 10 miles or greater totally blister-free since I started using the Anti-Friction Cream. I like that a little goes a long way and it isn’t greasy and scented.”

Carissa from Hooked On Beauty talks to Crystal Egger on Fox’s Good Day Colorado about the very best moisturizers for every age.
Duration : 0:5:13
Strivectin SD, originally developed for and still a killer stretch mark treatment, has been revealed as a tremendous aid to youthful skin. Women who have used the cream as a treatment for stretch marks are reporting an unintended, but very welcome, side effect of reduced wrinkles and improved complexion.
One reviewer I ran across, C. Burke-Datko, reports that:
“I like it cause it makes my skin so soft. I didn’t expect to totally diminish my wrinkles completely, but it is definitely giving my skin the moisture it needs to look healthy… It seems to have the ingredients my skin likes so I am happy with it… It is expensive but it lasts for a while, you don’t need to put too much on.”
But not too expensive. Order it here for 41% off. But keep it to yourself, its a secret!
From Allure.com:
When you’re pregnant, there are lots of weird things that happen to your body. But I was seriously not prepared to find out this news: That pregnant ladies are basically walking, talking skin-care-makers for their kids. Researchers at Leiden University in The Netherlands have been studying an all-natural moisturizer mothers produce in the womb—a “buttery ointment” with the not-so-catchy name Vernix caseosa. (I get the gross factor, but bear with me.) Apparently this stuff not only keeps your baby from being born a human prune (consider that it spends nine months essentially underwater), it also helps baby’s skin stay hydrated and fight off infection after it’s out in the world. The scientists just released a study with promising results on a synthetic version they created to heal some adult skin diseases. And, their hopes are that it just might one day be the mother of all moisturizers for healthy skin. Stay tuned.
This is the second in a series of posts answering the question “What is the Best Moisturizer?”.I turn my attention next to Dry Skin.
This is not the normal dry skin which causes most of us to use moisturizers in the first place. This is the woman who has a chronic severe dryness, even to the point of cracking. This type of skin crys out for moisture and providing it is imperative when you factor in the very real dangers of cracked skin.
The advice is to find an oil based product which lasts longer than a regular cream based product. The oil is also better at retaining the moisture from the effects of evaporation also. A preparation contain Urea or Propylene Glycol is best.
Women in this category should also be very aware of their usage of drying soaps and other skin preparations. Tey should also avoid the long bath or hot tub soak as these can wash away what natural oils they do have. Moderation is the key.
Products in this category are Seisei Skin Care Cream (with Camelia Oil) and Ahava Dermud.
