Dry skin is often more than an annoyance. It robs your face of vitality and often causes a mottled drawn, aged look.
Dry skin can also be more than a little itchy. So on top of the already scaly appearance, there is the mark of the repeated scratching, unless of course you have the demeanor of a saint and are able to resist. Many suggest lotions but sometimes the relief just doesn’t last.
What does work?
When bathing, try to remember that longer in water is not better for your skin. Keep baths short. Try to avoid long spa or jacuzzi sessions. Long baths and spa soaks tend to wash away the natural oils, something you want to avoid.
Avoid regular soaps in the bath. Stick to gentle preparations meant for sensitive skin. Gently cleanse and exfoliate. Vigorous applications and scrubbing will damge skin.
Moisturize with a high quality product. Especially if you have unusually dry skin, this is not an item to skimp on. Look for products which promise to lock in moisture. Apply this directly after the bath.
Moisturize from the inside. Too often women tend to drink only when thirsty. A body which is water deprived cannot provide the moisture in the skin cells necessary for vibrant youthful skin. So err on the side of too much water rather than less.
