Can the Sun aid in Skin Moisturizing?
In my web surfing journeys I happened upon the blog at http://naturalhealthbeauty.info/dry-skin-effective-treatments/. The post was about various dry skin causes and treatments. The part I chose to highlight was:
“Apart from keeping your skin clean and well moisturized, a health skin requires daily exposure to light and air. The skin plays host to a wide range of micro-organisms including bacteria and yeasts which no amount of cleaning will remove. Sunlight is one of the best ways to keep these bacterias within acceptable levels and promote healthy skin.Sunlight also causes the body to produce vitamin D3 which is another essential element of healthy skin. So aim to get half an hour of daily sunlight on the areas that are affected by dry skin. However, make sure you use an appropriate sunblock to avoid getting burnt, and keep your skin properly hydrated by drinking plenty of water and using a moisturizer.”
There are two points I would like to highlight here. The first is the role of sunlight in keeping our skin in check as far as microorganisms and yeast is concerned. I have never thought of this or even read of it but it makes alot of sense. Sunlight is a purifier and can be a powerful germ killer due to the ultraviolet radiation.
The second is one I am familiar and that is the role of the sun in creating Vitamin D in our bodies. We simply must have sun to create Vitamin D. It is added to our milk to try to meet the body’s demand but it is insufficient for most. Those in climates north of Atlanta often do not create enough Vitamin D naturally. Vitamin D is created in the skin when it is exposed to sufficient sunshine. It is vital to the creation and maintenance of bone tissue. All the Calcium in the world will not give you strong bones without Vitamin D.The takeaway is that despite warnings about sun exposure, we need a certain amount to be healthy.
